Perhaps two things to consider:
1. makesure xauth from pkgsrc is installed
2. make sure /etc/ssh/sshd_config contains the following line:

XAuthLocation   /opt/local/bin/xauth


make sure, if you bootstrap yourself pkgsrc, that if you use a different 
PREFIX for LOCALBASE, then adjust appropriately the path to xauth.
