I would use:
cores=1,threads=4

instead since smp tense to give problems if VM OS is having problems
with smp. 99% of the time cores=1,threads=x performs smoother and
better than cores=x,threads=y and without proper numa implementation
using cores > 1 does not add anything to the picture.

smp is first interesting in qemu-2.2 when numa is introduced.
