The very first thing on the 5-series changes list
(https://gcc.gnu.org/gcc-5/changes.html):

 * The default mode for C is now -std=gnu11 instead of -std=gnu89.

I have no problem with that, but it *may* cause us some heartburn.
Generally speaking though, I would vote for 5.1, mainly because of
support for new/upcoming CPU instructions and optimization
improvements.
