[OmniOS-discuss] install OmniOS into a new boot environment

Hi Geoff,

This is what I did (in broad strokes):
1. create a new boot environment (beadm create)
2. receive the @initial snapshot of an OmniOS install over the created
dataset
3. copy over some configuration files from /etc to the new boot environment
4. boot the new copy

It is not actually an upgrade, as an IPS based upgrade is not possible due
to the way OmniOS versions packages.
This is the closest you can get, and will have some advantages over
installing a fresh one:
1. will keep your old install, so you can go back if anything fails
2. in terms of downtime, it will be equivalent to an upgrade, as you won't
be down during a fresh install (if all you need is the IP configuration and
the data pool(s) imported) ...
This is not perfect, as you will have trouble finding an easy way to bring
over your STMF configuration, and some other things kept in "binary" form
from the OI root.
