hello,
i got the latest omnios-r151014.usb-dd from the omniti website.
checksum is fine, so download probably not corrupt.
wrote the image to a brand-new usb pendrive using; "dd
if=omnios-r151014.usb-dd of=/dev/sdb bs=1024 conv=sync" under ubuntu
15.04 (amd64) desktop.
the write went through successfully, and at the end of it, executed
"sync" to be doubly sure that the operation succeeded.
when i tried the boot the system using that pendrive, the bootup went
okay (hardware clock failure and lack of kvm support messages), but, at
the point where the install scripts start, the whole thing just failed
on me and put me into some kind of maintenance mode where it asked me to
enter a username (which i gave as "root"), and a password where I just
pressed the "enter" key.
it went a bit further and asked me to read up /lib/svc/share/README and
that turned out to be not of much help to me due to inexperience with
illumos based systems.
is there any way to work around this hurdle?
what may i have done or be doing wrong?
i have only one machine, and moving back and forth between the two
systems is quite painful. :(
best regards,
~mayuresh
