There have been some postings regarding problems.  The driver was 
developed for NVMe 1.0 and possibly only tested with Intel products. 
At least one user found that the driver had issues (checksum/fail 
issues) with a Samsung drive compliant with NVMe 1.1.

Check the illumos 'developer' and illumos 'discuss' lists.
