Thanks - I already did remove the ip address assignment, and then my trouble started with the host not being able to reach the guest.
I "solved" my problem by a reinstall of omniOS, and everything reverted to normal. Not my favorite MO, but I didn't have time to do in-depth debug.

This is Oracle documentation for logical domains on SPARC (Oracle VM
Server for SPARC 2.0 Administration Guide), which you likely do not
have, particularly since you are using OmniOS.
You should remove the IP address assignment on the vnic which was
assigned by the host, as was suggested by Dominik Hassler.
