Dan,
Tried with your recommendation, I'm really stuck here, now it fails like this:

I'd recommend installing a modern python. The built-in one for OmniOS is specifically for pkg(5) and other OmniOS-only tools.
The ms.omniti.com IPS server has a python27, e.g.
