[OmniOS-discuss] struggling to get samba 4 installed and working on omnios-r151020-b5b8c75

Greetings,

I've been trying to install samba 4 on a test box and failing hard. I need
the vfs_fruit module cause I've got nothing but mac clients and SMB over a
VPN is unusably slow without it.

I started with a brand new install of r151020.

Initially I tried the recipe here:
https://www.mail-archive.com/omnios-discuss@lists.omniti.com/msg06318.html
However I couldn't even get nettle installed via those instructions, so I
gave up, installed the Joyent Repos and installed Samba 4 from there.

Now I'm struggling to figure out how to get the default SMB stuff disabled
and the samba4 enabled. If I disable:

svcadm disable network/smb/client:default
svcadm disable network/smb/server:default

They're right back after a reboot, won't stay disabled, as if I'm using the
-t option, but i'm not. I can't figure out how to make it stay disable,
and i can't figure out how to enable and start samba. I'm not even sure
what to try next. I realized I don't even know if those are the native SMB
services or new samba one, or how to figure that out.

testparm -smb.conf gets me:

rlimit_max: increasing rlimit_max (256) to minimum Windows limit (16384)
Error loading services.

Has anybody successfully installed samba4 on r151020? Does anyone have any
guidance for disabling the native SMB services and enabling/configuring
samba 4? I'm pretty much thoroughly stuck now.

Thanks and best regards,
