This bug, an interaction between newly-updated macOS and VMware Fusion, affects OmniOS users who run in VMware Fusion (like I do).

The Loader screen for bloody will not show up, you will see a black screen.  So far, however, experiments show that once the illumos kernel kicks in, life returns to normal.  For GRUB-based releases, it appears that the illumos kernel also returns things to normal, but it seems to fix things "later in boot", so you will have a small period where your screen is black post-GRUB.

I've heard reports that other illumos distros STAY with a black screen.

Please consider yourself warned if you are a VMware Fusion user.
