Well then that would not be vi, would it? ;-)

I solved my vim on Limux anoyances years ago wit a few lins in my .vimrc
......
set undolevels=0
set whichwrap=""
set fileformats=unix
set noautoindent
set noruler
set noshowcmd
......

Works much better. :-)
