certainly gives omnios more options than hardware 
emulation of an intel 82545EM (e1000) or 82574 (e1000e)

that does make it as easy as possible on esxi for hardware emulation.

why emulate a Realtek ethernet? perhaps e1000e or as Gea points out, a vmxnet3
